As X and SpaceX’s increasing CO2 emissions contribute to the global climate crisis, prominent Xeeter and billionaire Elon Reeve Musk has come under fire for questionable environmental practices. Musk claimed these “lies and slander” fail to consider “how hard [he’s] trying,” and shared that he was “saddened” he didn’t receive an apology until much later.
Elementary schooler Kate Perch was seen waiting in front of Musk’s airstair with a note handwritten in crayon last Friday. Perch told reporters that her class attended a climate rally in October where she shouted “mean stuff [she] regret[s],” telling Musk he was “ruining our planet” and should “stop using that stupid jet.”
“My family told me saying things like that isn’t very nice,” Perch explained. Following her parents’ advice, she sought to confront Musk before an upcoming flight to formally apologize. After reading Perch’s note, Musk shook her hand and made eye contact as he replied, “I forgive you.” Days later, Musk “considered [his] past actions” and decided he should apologize to Perch in turn. In an email with no subject line, he typed, “Sorry for the carbon. I’ll try to cut back :3”
The exchange was described as “aspirational” by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY).
