Erien Smith, a spokesperson for the Young Republican National Federation (YR) spoke at a press conference to “clear the air” about the “unfortunate incident that occurred earlier this month with the leaked messages.”
“It’s very disheartening to see that the woke mob is trying to halt the careers of promising upstart politicians before they can even get to their prime,” Smith said. “I mean, who hasn’t said something stupid in their youth? It doesn’t mean they should be punished for it.” YR members are all between the ages of 18 and 40 and have reportedly faced consequences such as members’ workplaces “considering opening up an investigation into them” and facing criticism in online spaces.
“I’ve been seeing people online calling and comparing the fine young men of the YR to some truly awful things, things so awful, I can’t even repeat them,” Smith lamented.
“The woke left is just so quick to try to put labels on people,” added Representative Dave Taylor of Ohio. “Just because someone has a flag of something in their office does not mean that they support said thing.”
