Beginning Winter Quarter 2027, UC San Diego will introduce a new paid service that allows students to “level up” and receive exclusive rewards.
“We admire all of our hardworking students here at the university,” said Chancellor Khosla. “We want to reward them for their dedication by giving them the opportunity to purchase the UCSD Battle Pass for a lower-income–inclusive price of $2,500 per quarter.”
The Battle Pass will allow students to “level up” by completing quests for XP. Some quests challenge students to “study for 12 hours consecutively,” “get accepted to 10 internships,” or “become a Nobel laureate.” Each time a student “levels up”, they have the opportunity to enter a raffle for exclusive rewards such as Triton Cash, better parking spots, and “slightly more” priority enrollment.
“For what these students are getting, the price of the Battle Pass should be twice the amount,” suggested one UCSD administrator. “All this on top of getting to attend a world-class university is too much.” Students have shown mixed reactions to the introduction of the Battle Pass, with one Warren resident proclaiming that the quests are “too easy” and that they should be made “more challenging.”
