Residential, Retail and Supply Chain Services (RRSS) has officially been established as the supergroup of departments that aim to “activate the [UC San Diego] campus.” The largest unit merging into RRSS is Housing, Dining and Hospitality, and in preparation to “become one” with organizations that include the Early Childhood Education Center, HDH has announced that it is divesting itself of the three operations in its name.
“Housing was relabeled as the ‘Residential’ of RRSS, easy,” said Senior Director Basil Woodworth. “And we’re currently in the middle of divvying up Dining between ‘Retail’ and ‘Supply Chain.’ Then we got to the last one, and learned it’s a complete leech!” Woodworth explained that as hospitality depends on the well-being of others to succeed, the department did not align with RRSS’ vision of being a “self-sustaining” service and will be cut as a result. The floating budget will be spent on the ink needed to start printing the Oxford comma in UC San Diego’s branding.
The absence of hospitality is expected to affect only those who purchase from dining halls, travel across campus, or otherwise engage with RRSS. Such patrons have been instructed to “love [themselves]” if they seek to maintain business as usual.
