Intelligence agent handler Sashley Sandler has been struggling to “wake up” Donny Joe, one of the sleeper agents under her jurisdiction. “He ignores me every time I try to contact him,” she said. “Joe needs to start doing his job, but he just tells me to either ‘give him five more minutes’ or ‘snooze that shit.’”
While undercover, Joe had started a family of four with his wife of ten years. While none of them know about Joe’s secret identity, each speaks of him fondly and with great affection.
“I don’t know what I’d do without him,” said Jenny Joe, his wife. “Our marriage is one of the most genuine relationships I’ve ever known, and I’d like to believe he feels the same way.” His daughter shared similar sentiments. “I love Daddy lots and lots, even more than candy and Christmas,” said Jenny Joe Jr. “What? He’s a sleeper agent? What’s that? Oh — Daddy’s sleeping right now, shhh!”
When asked about what would happen to his family in the case Joe is caught, Sandler had the following response: “Family? Who cares? Donny Joe is my tool, a weapon of the state. Tools don’t have families.”
